Family Life

As a single parent and former foster parent, I bring extensive knowledge and understanding of the challenges faced by families.

I spent 11 years as a foster parent, working closely with young people and their families who often struggled to live harmoniously. My focus is on supporting parents in building stronger relationships to reduce high-conflict situations, enabling them to communicate more effectively and amicably for the benefit of their children.

In my work, I collaborate with a range of front-line professionals, including social workers, police, probation services, youth offending teams, family solicitors, Cafcass, the education system, and the Family Courts when referrals are made.

Career Summary

Throughout my career, I have worked extensively with children and adults affected by domestic violence, sexual abuse, substance misuse, and mental health issues. This experience has given me a deep understanding of diverse family cultures, races, and religions.

I am also the creator and founder of a former Family Child Contact Centre on the Isle of Wight, which I led for 12 years. During this time, I achieved its first NACCC accreditation (National Association of Child Contact Centres) before stepping down.

The need for support with child contact arrangements and handovers is significant, and many families turn to the FIRST Hub for the help they urgently require.

Providing understanding and support for families experiencing separation and divorce is critical, as is recognising the importance of family diversity and meeting individual needs. I work in alignment with the Equality Act to safeguard children, young people, and adults from discrimination, harassment, or victimisation in areas such as education, housing, and employment.

It is essential that every person feels heard, understood, and free from judgment. My approach ensures that every individual is valued, and I focus on offering coping strategies to help them move forward. Communicating effectively with individuals at their level of understanding is always at the heart of what I do.
